Community and Communication
If feel as though
communication is the most important factor to successfully representing Ward One. As
your Councilman, it is essential that I stay in contact with residents to accurately understand YOUR vision for your city,
in order to assist in guiding the direction of this wonderful community.
In the
past four years, I have worked very hard to provide tools in order to more easily facilitate communication with my fellow
residents. I have done this by maintaining a website outlining important city
events, discussions, and actions. In addition, I have provided an e-newsletter
to help with keeping residents informed and engaged. Regarding community events,
I make it priority number one to attend any neighborhood event in order to get to know my fellow residents better. Equally important, I work hard to respond in a timely manner to any concerns voiced by residents, either
by phone, email, or in person.
The above actions
have proven to be extremely successful in creating an atmosphere in which everyone, not only feels that they have a voice,
but a strong stake in the continuing success of Merriam.
Beautification of Merriam
I
have been a strong supporter of actions that help to revitalize our aging housing stock, and beautify the overall city. I am proud to have supported the Downtown revitalization efforts, and look forward
to more residents utilizing our low interest home loans for repairs and improvements.
Public Safety
I have, and will
continue, to be committed to finding solutions regarding our growing city and the need to ensure the safety of all residents
and visitors to Merriam. When faced with serious crimes in our community, I led
the fight to take immediate action by temporarily reducing the operating hours of our local bars. Obviously, this action was not popular with some business owners and patrons. I did not take this decision lightly, but my number one priority is doing all I can to ensure that our
residents have a safe community.
